Hydroseeding or sod?

Hydroseeding is a popular choice for getting a new lawn established quickly and easily. Hydroseeding combines grass seed, mulch, fertilizer, tackifier, and water into a slurry that easily can be sprayed around flower beds and walkways to create beautiful, healthy lawns.

Sod is grown on farms, then cut into thick pieces that include roots and underlying soil from the farm. Those pieces are then rolled out and pieced into place, not unlike a carpet. Very labor intensive, meaning much more expensive.

Faster installation at much lower cost
Creating a hydroseeded lawn is significantly less expensive than installing sod above the ground. The cost of sod can be upwards of three times that of the slurry used in hydroseeding, not to mention the labor involved in installing it. For example, a 5,000-square-foot sodded lawn could take up to a day to install, while hydroseeding the same area would take about an hour.

The hydroseeding slurry protects the seeds from erosion and provides a moist environment for seeds to germinate quickly and grow your new lawn to maximum height while resisting weeds and disease. Our proprietary slurry also delivers a higher germination rate than other slurry formulas.

Better moisture and erosion control
The hydroseeding slurry helps bind the seed directly to the underlying ground surface soil, meaning your new lawn will be much better than sod at holding moisture and protecting against erosion from wind, rain, sun, and pests.

Grass wherever you want it
Hydroseeding is particularly effective where growing grass is difficult, such as slopes or areas damaged by erosion or construction. It’s great for curving and odd-shaped spaces where cutting and fitting sod would be challenging.
